Introduction: Dear Customer
Welcome to Union Sanitary District's Pollution Prevention
Environmental Programs. The Environmental Programs mission statement
is "To meet the wastewater management needs of businesses, residents
and contractors in the area of water quality regulation and public
education (sanitary sewer and storm water discharges), in order to
protect the integrity of the sewer system and reduce pollutant discharges
from the District's service area into San Francisco Bay".
"What is Pollution Prevention?"
Pollution Prevention is a choice, a choice to make
a difference on how we as individuals conduct day to day activities.
Pollution Prevention in its simplest terms means preventing pollution
before it begins, thus making a conscious effort to change the way
we normally do specific activities and projects.
"What does this mean to me?"
Many of us today look too often to the easy and
quickest solution to complete a task without ever thinking or realizing
the potential environmental pollution that we may have caused. Federal
law prohibits the business community from purchasing and using specific
chemicals due to their hazardous and pollution causing ingredients,
but pollution prevention begins with you and me.
"How can you learn about
Pollution Prevention or help do your part to prevent pollution?"
The Union Sanitary District Environmental Programs
has dedicated staff to communicate and educate the community on Pollution
Prevention and if you are reading this document on the World Wide
Web, well then you have gone one step ahead of the rest of the world.
The Pollution Prevention Web Page is designed to communicate to
the world on the efforts of the Union Sanitary District to promote
Pollution Prevention. In addition to communication, the web page
is designed to provide valuable information on the latest pollution
prevention materials.
