Teacher Tools

When a teacher schedules a classroom presentation with USD environmental compliance staff, this 8-page teacher booklet is sent to the class prior to the presentation. The booklet supplies background information on the presentation, including useful vocabulary words, and also provides supplemental exercises that the teacher can do in the classroom after the presentation.

Teacher Booklet:

USD, the City of Fremont, and the Math/Science Nucleus created a two-sided placemat to use in the school presentations. On one side a to-scale color version of USD's service area along with the two different pipeline systems is depicted. On the other side, a gray scale generic town shows various polluting and non-polluting activities. During the presentation, the kids find the location of their school on the colorful side of the placemat and trace the sanitary sewer and storm drain lines. The presenters help the kids find the location of the treatment plant and note that all sanitary sewer lines end up at the treatment plant and all storm drains go to the creeks and the Bay untreated. Using the black and white generic town on the opposite side of the placemat, the presenters ask the kids to help determine to which pipeline the pollutants are going and ways in which they can keep pollutants out of our waterways.
